Confession: I actually hate rating books 1-10, mostly because I usually have way too many thoughts about all their different elements (prose, characters, plot, etc). So while this is in practice essentially a five-star rating system, I’m not going to call it to preserve at least the pretense of holistic reviewing.
Ratings go from:
You’re intelligent people; I trust you can figure out what they mean.
Other things of interest:
- Listicles: you know them, you love them. Mostly recommendations for things you should read.
- Rants and raves: the fiction of objectivity breaks down. Probably mostly just talk about writing in general.
- Not books: not books. Maybe movies. Maybe TV. Maybe pictures of my dog. Who knows? Take a chance, see what you come up with today.
